Damecuta

According to the traditions, the Damecuta’s imperial villa was one of the twelwe villas built in Capri by the emperor Tiberio. The majesty of this villa was dug out beginning from 1937, thanks to Dr. Axel Munthe’s good offices and his commitment to the archaeologist Amedeo Maiuri for the excavations necessaries to find the first Damecuta’s perimetral dimentions. They are various assumptions on his name, the more reliables of which, for a number of historians and writers are only two: this term can come from a conversion process by the latin term "Domus Augustus", or according to Dr. Maiuri too, a greek derivation from Damo (or Demo), Kira (or Kyraion, the place’s name), or Kiras (a person name). Unlike the others imperial villas, there is’nt any certain notices on his construction, but it supposed to be one of Tiberio’s summer residences, since his sea position and favourable climatic location. Even the emperor Augusto is supposed to visit the villa.
