The Scala Fenicia
On
the left side of the church of Saint Costanzo there is this spectacular stairway,
recently brought back to its original splendour ,which, in the past,
rappresented the only connection between Marina Grande and Anacapri, before the
construction of carriage, in 1874. Towards the middle of 19th century,
there were 533 stairs, but it’s very probable that originally
there were much more. The stairway was made, in part by chiselling the
rock, in base of a typically greek system, and in part carrying over the stones,
in greek age, following the serpentine course that climbs almost vertically a
mountain.
